A study published in January 2023 analyzed the relationship between diet and cancer.
The study examined the metabolism of mice given a healthy diet or an unhealthy diet.
Mice fed an unhealthy diet showed specific metabolic changes in both cancerous and healthy tissues, with increased production of glycerol and succinate.
Furthermore, it was found that the difference in metabolism between cancer cells and normal cells was greatest when an unhealthy diet was consumed.
This suggests that cancer cells may utilize unhealthy nutrients to promote their survival and growth.
While this study is in its early stages, the researchers plan to create more advanced metabolic models in the future that incorporate mechanisms of metabolic exchange and the influence of gut bacteria.
